World of Hyatt Category 8
Beginning on November 1, 2018 Hyatt is utterly gutting their Points + Cash program while also making it easier to book suites with points. The suite change will be positive for some, but it also means less availability ultimately for elites. Either way, the Points + Cash news is both significant and terrible.
While Hyatt has made many changes over the past couple of years including the introduction of a new program, one thing that has remained constant for has been their award category structure. The 30,000 point per night Category 7 was added back in 2014 and other than the addition of Miraval and all-inclusive properties it has remained the most expensive tier. That may be changing.
The Points Guy reports that earlier today a greyed out Category 8 appeared on the Hyatt website.
The phantom World of Hyatt Category 8 appeared on this page, but has now been removed. As you can see it did indeed have a new cost of 40,000 points per night which is 33% higher than their current most expensive price.
Come On Hyatt
Hyatt has really done a terrible job of releasing their upcoming changes. For example, the decimation of Points + Cash was leaked first instead of being properly announced. Hopefully this new category won’t come to fruition on November 1, 2018 given the severe lack of notice, however I expect that it will appear sooner rather than later.
Hyatt will be adding a number of new higher-end properties to their portfolio so this could be a preparatory move. Either way a 40,000 points per night level paves the way for a huge devaluation on the redemption side.
Time will tell. What are your thoughts on all of these changes?

DoC confirmed it and the new category is only for some of the SLH properties…for now.
Why not 35K points instead of 40K? Seems like a big jump. Hopefully it will be the Miraval type locations and not a whole bunch of Park Hyatt locations.
