World of Hyatt Globalist 60 Nights
The other day Hyatt sent out an email to all elites welcoming them to their respective tiers in the World of Hyatt program. I too got an email since I will be a top tier Globalist under the new program. While the new email touted many of the new benefits of the program, it also said this:
Maintain your Globalist status when staying 60 qualifying nights, earning 100,000 Base Points or hosting 20 qualifying meetings each calendar year.
I had previously thought that those re-qualifying for Globalist status would only need 55 nights. To clarify whether this was a mistake or the real requirement, last Friday I reached out to Jeff Zidell who is the Senior Vice President in charge of loyalty at Hyatt. He then gave me the bad news:
In 2017, you need 60 nights to qualify for status in 2018. If you achieve 60 nights in 2017, then you only need 55 nights in 2018 to qualify for status in 2019.
After receiving the message on Friday, I reached out to some others and many people seemed to already know this. I felt like perhaps I was the only one who misunderstood this requirement. 🙁
Then, earlier today I saw a post at One Mile at a Time covering the same topic. Ben and Tiffany from OMAAT both saw the same email and thought it was a mistake. They too contacted Hyatt and were told the same thing as me. Since I wasn’t the only one who misunderstood the nights requirement I thought it was worth sharing with you. We all need 60 nights whether we are current elites or not to get Globalist in 2018!
Conclusion
Since some people seemed to already know this, I’ll assume this was Hyatt’s policy all along and it was just easily overlooked. Either way 5 extra nights is pretty significant cost wise and definitely changes the cost analysis for re-qualifying for Globalist in 2017.

I mentioned this on OMAAT’s site and it’s definitely worth repeating. The WOH roll-out has been disappointing and confusing at best. Zidell’s Reddit AMA session did little to calm Diamond members’ concerns and Hyatt’s front line reps are left to respond. Personally, I requaled for Diamond/Globalist status last week under what could be best described as a “miscommunication / misinterpretation.” After having previous conversations documented in my account, Hyatt Guest Relations stepped up and did the right thing (on my second attempt). The amount of questions surrounding WOH should be a clear signal to Hyatt Mgmt. that something is very wrong.

I t think this has been hashed over “ad nauseam” . It has always been 60 first year then 55 after that. Ok, it’s their sandbox and if we want to play there are rules. As a current and long time Diamond as well as a LFT Marriott PLT I have chosen to stay with Hyatt. Why, because I do a fair amount of international travel; and that is where Hyatt shines, really shines. If your top tier you can not get treated much better, for a chain.
Days of freebies are coming to a close and I for and glad. As a long time business traveler the old days of revenue based rewards is totally appealing to me and the way it should be.
It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if Hyatt conceded this point and made it seem like all of us disowned Diamonds won something from them. The whole devaluation and so-called enhancement stinks. This disenfranchised diamond is taking his business elsewhere
