Southwest Airlines extended their schedule today to allow bookings through October 31, 2014. Usually Southwest doesn’t allow bookings more than six months out, so this is a nice change considering Rapid Rewards are being devalued at the end of the month.
With the schedule now extended through October 31, 2014, you can book award tickets through that date at the old price of 60 points per dollar until March 31, 2014. Starting on April 1, 2014 award tickets will cost 70 points per dollar.
I was worried that Southwest would wait until April 1st to extend their schedule again so the devaluation could take effect, but it looks like they made a somewhat consumer friendly move here. Of course, devaluing a revenue based system isn’t exactly consumer friendly, so they don’t get many bonus points from me!
