4th Quarter Spending Offers for Current Customers

4th Quarter Spending Offers for Current Customers

With the 4th quarter now upon us and the holiday shopping bonanza fast approaching Barclaycard has been sending out spending offers for current cardmembers.  I received one for the American Airlines Aviator card.  Please let us know of any offers that you have received in the comments and I will add them into the post.  A spending offer for any Barclaycard will do!

Aviator Spending Offer

Barclaycard tends to send out spending offers right around the time your annual fee is due.  With my annual fee due next month I received my offer via email and standard mail.  It is not as good as it has been in the past and I probably won’t pursue it.  In previous years I would routinely get 15,000 AA miles after spending $500 a month for 3 months.  The details of my offer this year are:

  • Spend $1,000 or more in October, November and December with your AAdvantage® Aviatorâ„¢ Red MasterCard®and get 1,000 bonus miles for each month the spend level is achieved.
  • Get an additional 2,000 bonus miles for spending $1,000 in all 3 months to earn a total of 5,000 bonus miles.
  • Activate this limited-time offer by 11/30/17.

Barclaycard usually sends these offers out around your anniversary date to entice you into paying the annual fee.  Even if you get an offer you think is worth paying the annual fee for make sure to call in and attempt to get the fee waived.  People have been successful in the past when threatening to cancel and you will still be able to get the spending offer.

Let us know if you also got a spend offer for the Aviator card and I will add in any differing data points.

Other Barclaycard Offer Data Points Needed

We are also looking for data points for other Barclaycard’s products.  Let me know in the comments if you received an offer for one of their other cards.  We are looking for the:

  • Arrival Plus
    • Earn 5,000 bonus miles when you spend $750 or more in new purchases with your card each month in October, November and December
    • (Back in May) Spend $750 for June, July and August and get 10,000 miles
  • Wyndham Rewards
  • Hawaiian Airlines
    • Spend $1000 in Oct, Nov, and/or Dec and receive a 1000 bonus miles for each month plus an additional 2,000 miles for spending $1k in all 3 months.
  • JetBlue
  • Lufthansa Miles and More
    • Spend $1500 each month Oct, Nov, Dec, get 1000 bonus miles for each month and an extra 2000 if you complete all 3 months.
  • Aviator Card
    • Earn 3X American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles for every $1 spent on all purchases you make, up to 10,000 miles (expires 4/30/18).
    • Spend $500 or more in new purchases each calendar month in October, November and December¹ you’ll earn 15,000 bonus miles.
  • Commerce Card
    • $10 back when you spend $1000 in a month for the next 3 months.  Plus a $30 bonus if you spend $1000 in all 3 months.

Or any others that come up.

Conclusion

While it is nice to see spending offers for current cardmembers the offer I received is very lackluster.   When you consider the nose dive AA miles have taken over the last two years it is even less enticing.  I will not be taking advantage of this offer but hopefully you got something a little more exciting!

  1. Aviator Red: same bonus offered to you for October, November and December. My Aviator Red normally stays in “sock drawer” without something special, and a month ago they offered to let me enroll in a trial where I agreed to let Barclays round up each purchase to the nearest dollar. They would in turn give me one additional AA mile for each rounded up penny. Example given was cup of coffee purchased for $3.10, rounded to $4. Purchase would generate 93 miles. I enrolled.
With both offers activated, Aviator Red is now back in my wallet, where it will be my go to card in most cases. By the way, I just redeemed more than 100,000 AA miles, so card membership just yielded the annual maximum of 10,000 rebated miles into my account. Yes, Barclays has a solid product, in spite of frustration with American’s miles program.

    • Nice – when you stack them both it does make it a compelling offer! I would say it has a solid product when giving good offers at least….not a majority of the time though.

  2. I’ve only had the Aviator one month. Still waiting for my sign up bonus. Getting junk – add an AU and get more miles, use auto pay. Not impressive, and they’ll need to do something if they want me to use the silly thing!

  3. On the Hawaiian Airlines Card, I got the spend $1K in Oct, Nov, and/or Dec and receive a 1000 bonus miles for each month plus and additional 2,000 miles for spending $1k in all 3 months.

  4. My annual fee is due in December for the Aviator. If they don’t send me an offer that will net me a minimum of 10,000 miles then I’ll cancel the card. With my valuation of AA miles just under 1 cent per mile, 10,000 miles is just break even.

  5. I got the spend $1000, get 1000 miles for three months plus a 2k bonus. I registered but I probably wont spend anything on the card. AA miles not worth it. Will keep the card as long as Barclays waives the fee.

  6. Barclays Lufthansa Miles and More card gave me this spending offer. Spend $1500 each month Oct, Nov, Dec, get 1000 bonus miles for each month and an extra 2000 if you complete all 3 months. So a bit over 2x on all spend.

  7. I got the same Aviator offer. Definitely going to use the card for everyday un-bonused spend. Spending $3,000 to get 8,000 AA miles total seems like a decent return to me. 2.6 miles per dollar. And I know everyone will bash AA miles, but Ive been having no issue redeeming my miles. So far 290,000 miles redeemed this year on 1 J ticket and 2 F tickets.

  8. I got a very different offer, but it doesn’t look like it’s the Q4 bonus spend (based on the dates), just a general “hey, use me” thing.

    1. Use your AAdvantage® Aviator™ Red MasterCard® between 10/1/17 and 4/30/18.
    2. Earn 3X American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles for every $1 spent on all purchases you make, up to 10,000 miles.
    3. Best of all, these bonus miles are in addition to the AAdvantage® miles you already earn with your card.

  9. We got:
Plus, when you spend $500 or more in new purchases each calendar month in October, November and December¹ you’ll earn 15,000 bonus miles.

So we are pretty happy with that offer!
$14.82 out of pocket = 16,514 AAdvantage Miles

  10. Commence $10 bonus on $1000 spend per month this quarter, and an extra $30 if you hit the goal every month, 5 percent cash back extra on top of the regular categories
