Conclusion

This is a great offer for Amex Marriott cardholders that want to earn some extra points while doing their holiday shopping. You should find the offer in your accounts now.

But also keep in mind that there are other cards out there that can earn you 5x on these purchases. For Amazon for example, there are several Chase spending offers that will get you 5X points. Walmart is a 5% bonus category this quarter for Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Flex. For Target, if you have a REDcard, you can always save 5%.

  1. It’s a targeted offer. I just checked and I’m not among the “targeted.”
I find that AMEX–unlike Chase– offers some great extras but generally makes them difficult or impossible to use. e.g. Almost every good thing on my Platinum Amex requires a separate signup or registration.
It seems to me they want to be able to tout a lot of benefits that their “members” can’t use.

  2. I got the offer and enrolled. Last week I got an emailed spend offer on amex bonvoy card, spend $1500 get 15000 points. So potentially I can get 18x points on first $1500 in spend.
    Always worth checking the email.
