AA Elite Fast Track Promotion

I know a lot of you are registered in the LinkedIn American Airlines AAdvantage elite fast track that became available a couple of months ago. If you have questions about that promotion, I wrote an entire FAQ about it.

This weekend I am flying on American Airlines and I just passed 5K elite qualifying points last night. As I expected, my account automatically upgraded itself to Gold as soon as I hit that threshold. After today’s flight I should pass 9,000 EQPs and I fully expect that my account will be upgraded to Platinum at that time. It has been taking between 12 and 24 hours for flights to post.

Remember once you hit Gold you also receive a 25% bonus on base miles earned and Platinum comes with a 100% bonus. Those are very nice ways to pad the amount of miles you earn from flights! I’m glad American has made this elite fast track so easy! If you are enrolled everything SHOULD work automatically, but note that the website will still show the normal qualification amounts for each tier as shown above.

Conclusion

The American Airlines AAdvantage elite fast track is a great deal if you were able to register for it. Unlike promotions with some other companies that require a lot of follow up, American seems to have their IT together and at least with my account everything is happening automatically! Just a few more flights and I’ll be an Executive Platinum!

  1. Glad to hear. I got the deal as well. Have never had status. I was worried about not seeing the Progress bar based on the challenge but if you’re seeing your update change then great! I should be Platinum when I get to Madrid (LAX-DFW-MAD) so on the return I should be getting 100% bonus for award miles but not on EQP. Is that right? My I fare code gets 1.5 EQP. I’m assuming I won’t get 3 EQP for the return. Seems I read that bonus miles don’t count for EQM or EQP.

    • The bonus EQPs don’t count towards the challenge so they don’t matter. Yes you should have Platinum and get a 100% bonus plus earn 1.5 EQPs and EQMs on an I fare. You are also correct that bonus miles are just redeemable but don’t count for elite status. Congrats and enjoy your new status! Fun fun.

      • Thanks. I sent AA an email (w/in their system) to confirm how many miles I had in my challenge and they called me this morning to confirm I had 2500 EQPs (one trip to MCO). But they never reply to my emails- always call me. I would rather have it in writing. I guess I won’t believe it until I see it and your story about seeing your status change within your trip is encouraging. Did your status update to Platinum after your trip and how soon did it update?

        • I finished a trip last night, on which I achieved Platinum status after the 2nd of 3 legs (using this fast track promo). As of this morning, my status was correctly updated to Platinum. And I earned the correct 100% bonus miles from my Platinum status on the 3rd leg of my trip yesterday.

          • @PDX- Ok, that is great it really worked so fast. I thought about trying to reach Platinum before my LAX-DFW-MAD trip to max bonus miles but I prob won’t. I’ll be Gold when after leg 1 then Platinum on my return MAD-JFK-LAX. Next day I have a 5 leg trip that will put me over the top. It was hard but I was able to find reasonable tickets in V fare code for 1.0 EQPs for that 5 leg trip. I paid a bit more ($250) but the 8 SWUs will be worth the extra $.

  2. Can you confirm that the Status challenge is based on EQM and not EQP? I got the email that said it’s based on eqp, but flyertalk has said some folks saying they have qualified via miles

    • I think it’s based on EQP. I’m pretty sure that Shawn was tracking his expectations of when he’d hit Gold & Platinum based upon earning 1.5x in First Class. Given that he hit Gold when he expected on his current trip, I think that’s decent confirmation of it being based on EQP. Of course, Shawn can speak for himself, but I know that he’s traveling and might not be posting to comments much the next couple days.

    • There was a version that a few people got that was based on EQMs, but most people including myself and you have the one based on EQPs. Mine is definitely based on the EQPs and that is how I am qualifying. Since I am traveling on a premium fare I am earning both EQPs and EQMs at the same 1.5X rate.
