Active Junky Review – Are They Legitimate?

Part of the way I save money and earn more miles is through the use of shopping portals. Yes, there are a ton of shopping portals and it can all get a bit confusing, but whether you use one portal or all of them, you should be using portals.

How to Maximize Online Cashback and Rewards Shopping Portals in 2019

Active Junky Overview

Due to the volume of stuff I buy online, I have taken to using Cashback Monitor to compare rates and then a variety of portals to get cashback. I don’t use every portal, but a decent number are in my tool kit. You can find a full list of the shopping portals I use here.

As their name would imply, Active Junky is a portal for someone who lives an active lifestyle. In fact, I started using Active Junky when I was making purchases at a few outdoors/sports stores in 2016.

An Almost Expensive Mistake

While Active Junky excels in those types of stores, they pretty much have all the stores other portals do. Which brings me to Walmart and last year. With Discover Deals disappearing and uPromise having tons of tracking issues, I turned to Active Junky for several Walmart purchases. I was earning less than I had previously with Discover & uPromise, but more than everywhere else. I ended up earning $506.42 cashback for the 4th quarter.

So I did my shopping and I earned $506.42 cashback. Active Junky works sort of like Ebates in that they send you the money earned once per quarter. When I signed up I opted for a physical check and for some reason never switched it over to PayPal. Almost a big mistake!

A Big Save

Last week I received the following email from Active Junky customer service:

Hello Shawn,

We sent out a check to you on 2/10/19 and it has been returned back to our office undelivered. Can you please log into your Active Junky account and update your mailing address?

Please shoot us a reply that it has been updated so that we know it’s been done and we can re-send you your check.

Indeed I moved a bit over a year ago and never updated my address in Active Junky. My mail forwarding has now ended, so the check went back. They sent the check on February 10 and reached out on March 1. I’m sure it took awhile to get back to them, so I would say that was pretty quick. What’s perhaps even better is I responded on Friday March 1, the check was re-sent that day and is arriving today via USPS!

Active Junky Review

Active Junky isn’t my top overall shopping portal, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use them at all. This experience proved they are organized and honest, plus I like their site design and all of my purchases have tracked correctly. For those reasons I would absolutely recommend Active Junky, if they have the best payout for you. Just make sure you select PayPal for your payouts so this doesn’t happen!

Conclusion

This whole experience was pretty darn awesome and makes me want to do more business with Active Junky. While I’ll always make sure I’m getting the best return, they are a bit higher on my list today due to this!

  1. Thanks for this article. I just couldn’t find a coupon code so used ActiveJunky and got $400 cash back on a bunch of expensive stuff I just bought. How did I not know about this??

  2. I have been using them since 2014 I can vouch for them too, biggest discount secret in the outdoor gear world and not sure why everyone doesnt use this. I get a check every 3 months in the mail:)

  3. I can vouch for them too. I’ve used them for about 18 months and they’ve paid out a couple grand without any issues.
