AgFed Online Visas Are Dead

Over the past year we have lost many of the better opportunities to purchase Visa gift cards online. Just this past year we saw both GiftCardMall and GiftCards.com raise fees and lower denominations. While Visas are still available from those sites, the fees are too high to justify purchasing them.

Agricultural Federal Credit Union has been an alternative source of pin-enabled Visa gift cards. One of the benefits of these cards was that they came personalized with your name on them. They were also available in denominations as high as $500 for just a $3.95 fee and you could buy up to five $500 cards per order!

Not Anymore

Unfortunately it seems these cards are no longer available for purchase online. If you have an AgFed branch nearby, then you can still purchase them there. James left the following comment at Frequent Miler that tipped me off.

“Purchase of VISA Gift Cards No Longer Available Online
Effective Monday, November 16, 2015, AgFed will no longer offer the option of purchasing VISA Gift Cards online. If you would like to purchase a gift card, please visit one of our branches to do so.”

While I wasn’t able to find exactly where on the site he found that particular message, I was able to confirm the Visa gift card purchase area is gone. When you navigate to the Visa gift card section, you now only have the ability to manage existing cards. Here is what it looks like:

So there you have it. In-branch only. Another method of purchasing pin-enabled Visa gift cards online has dried up. Just another reason to diversify your spending.

  1. @Ryan–I went to two Simon Malls last week and they all charged me $3.95 for a $500 VGC.. Your report of $7.95 fee is news to me. Where did you see this?

  2. Hi Shawn,

Where do you buy VGC now? especially with name on it? Simon Mall charges $7.95 for $500 gift card which is pricey.
