Airbnb Ban on House Parties

Airbnb Issues Ban on House Parties and Large Gatherings

If you are planning a party, a family reunion or just a large get together at an Airbnb, you need to change up your plans. Airbnb has issued a ban on house parties and large gatherings at properties worldwide.

Unauthorized parties at Airbnb listings have been an issue recently. And it has only been made worse by the coronavirus pandemic and associated public health risks. Unauthorized parties have always been prohibited at Airbnb listings and 73% of hosts already ban parties in their House Rules, and the vast majority of our guests behave in manners that show respect for House Rules and for neighbors.

Aribnb said in its statement that it is issuing “a global ban on all parties and events at Airbnb listings, including a cap on occupancy at 16. This party ban applies to all future bookings on Airbnb and it will remain in effect indefinitely until further notice.” In 2019, the company banned “party houses” that were consistently causing neighborhood disturbances.

Airbnb said they would take action against guests who violate the party ban. One of the obvious measures would be getting kicked off the platform and not being allowed to book in the future.

Airbnb Ban of Parties and Large Gatherings

Here’s how the ban works:

  • Parties are now prohibited on all future bookings
  • Occupancy at Airbnb listings will be capped at 16 people. This is primarily relevant to larger homes that we previously allowed to list as able to accommodate 16+ people.
  • We are currently scoping a potential exception process for specialty and traditional hospitality venues (i.e. boutique hotels)
  • Guests will be informed about Airbnb’s party rules and informed that they may be legally pursued by Airbnb if they violate our policy. This work is currently being operationalized and will be rolled out in the near future.
