Airlines Are Adding More Flights to Europe

Europe is slowly opening up for Americans, and everyone else for that matter. Several countries are already awaiting vaccinated Americans, or those testing negative for Covid-19. The European Union is working on a vaccine passport by the summer, to make travel easier. Some E.U. members such as Greece, Italy, Spain and Croatia are especially eager to bring back visitors as their economies heavily rely on tourism.

Ireland is already opened to vaccinated Americans, and Greece and France are set to start lifting travel bans this month. The UK could follow suit later this month as well.

Europe in on top of the travel list for Americans based on a new smarTours survey. It is the most-desired destination for 2021. So with travel demand rising, and Europe awaiting Americans with open arms soon, airline are starting to prepare with added flights.

Croatia

Delta Air Lines is set to debut new service between New York and Croatia starting July 2, as per Business Insider. Croatia opened to Americans in April, and this will be Delta’s first-ever nonstop route to the Southeast European country. Service will consist of four-times-weekly departures from New York’s JFK Airport to Dubrovnik Airport (DBV), with return flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

United Airlines will also service to Croatia on July 8, running three times a week between Newark Liberty International Airport and Dubrovnik. Departures will run on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, with return flights on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

Greece

Greece opens its borders to vaccinated or tested PCR-negative travelers on May 15. United is set to resume its routes from Newark to Athens on June 3 and start flying from Washington, D.C. to Athens on July 1.

Delta Air Lines will resume its route from New York to Athens on May 28 and initiate a new route between Atlanta and Athens on July 2.

Iceland

Delta and United Airlines are also introducing routes to Iceland, which reopened to fully vaccinated foreign visitors on March 18. United will start flying to Reykjavik, Iceland from Newark Liberty International Airport on June 3 and Chicago O’Hare International Airport on July 1.

Delta currently flies from New York to Reykjavik, and will also begin serving the Icelandic capital city from Boston on May 20 and Minneapolis on May 27.
