Alaska Airlines Visa Best Offer With Statement Credit
The other day I covered the news that Bank of America and Alaska Airlines are running a two month promotion on their co-branded credit card. New cardmembers who sign-up in May and June will only have to pay taxes/fees ($22) to use their Companion Fare certificate. Normally the cert requires you to pay $99 plus taxes/fees ($121 total) for the companion.
At the time of my original article I mentioned that I hoped this new offer would extend to their “secret $100 statement credit” version of the deal. You see, you can get the 30,000 point bonus and a $100 statement credit if you apply through a link that shows up when trying to make a booking on the Alaska Air website.
Finding the Better Offer
Fortunately, the news is good. If you go to the Alaska Airlines website and go through the process of making a booking, you will see the following when you get to the payment screen:
When clicking “Apply Now” you will see it all confirmed in writing as shown below. You do get the bonus, statement credit & the new Companion Fare offer!
Need to Know
This card used to be one you could get often, however Bank of America has been cracking down on people who are trying to open multiple versions of the same card. Additionally some people have had approvals rescinded if they have too many open BofA cards. Keep those facts in mind if you are going to apply.
Analysis
Alaska Airlines miles are very valuable, especially when you use them to book on partners such as Cathay Pacific. Add in a $100 statement credit and an additional $99 savings on the Companion Fare and you have a winner of an offer in my book. Keep in mind the $75 annual fee is NOT WAIVED, so I see this more like a $25 credit plus the miles and Companion Fare.
Happy flying!

I did not see $100 statement credit
Shawn – Does this offer make sense for someone based on the East Coast who doesn’t travel very often (say once in 4-5 months) to the West Coast?
I think the offer is quite valuable for the miles, but with the Companion Fare now working on Virgin as well there should be ample opportunity to use it even if you don’t travel West often. I have always gotten this card for the miles and seen the Companion Fare as a fringe benefit.
Any data points or experience with BoA matching applications approved prior to these new offers? Just got my card last week under the old offer with the $100 statement credit.
I haven’t seen any. It definitely doesn’t hurt to call and ask, but I have had very limited success with BofA.
Just tried a second time to see if BoA would match the current promo and failed. Was asked to either apply again under new terms or call Alaska Air (which just pointed me back to BoA in the end).
