Alaska Restores Wallet Funds for Companion Fare Bookings
Alaska Airlines has quietly reversed a unpopular change to its Companion Fare benefit. As first reported by Frequent Miler, members can once again use Wallet funds to pay for Companion Fare bookings.
When Alaska transitioned to its new Atmos Rewards platform, the airline removed the ability to apply Wallet funds toward Companion Fare reservations. Instead, members were required to pay the full cost of the itinerary with an eligible Alaska credit card, even if they had travel credits sitting in their Wallet.
That restriction has now been lifted and Wallet funds once again appear as a payment option during checkout when using a Companion Fare. Even better, it appears there’s no longer a requirement to charge any portion of the booking to an Alaska credit card.
This follows another recent improvement, when Alaska restored the ability to book multi-city itineraries using the Companion Fare after that feature had also disappeared during the migration to Atmos Rewards.
Conclusion
This is welcome news for Alaska loyalists, especially those with unused travel credits in their Wallet. Restoring Wallet payments makes the Companion Fare more flexible.
