All Disney Parks Closed

The Walt Disney Company has made some truly stunning announcements today. Earlier I covered the news that the two parks at Disneyland Resort (Disneyland and Disney California Adventure) would be closing their doors from March 14 through the end of the month.

Now, Disney has announced that the parks at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris resort will close as of Sunday. Additionally Disney Cruise Line will cancel some upcoming sailings.

Here is what Disney had to say:

The New Announcements

As you can see from the release above, the Walt Disney company announced a few things. Among the new details released are:

  • Disney Cruise line will suspend departures from March 14 through the end of March, 2020
  • Parks at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris resorts will close as of the end of the day on March 15, 2020
  • Hotels at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris resorts will stay open as will retail and dining complexes in both resorts
  • Cast members will be paid despite the closures

All Disney Parks Now Closed

Hong Kong Disneyland and Shanghai Disneyland have been closed for about 6 weeks while Tokyo Disneyland has been shuttered for a few weeks already. Recently Shanghai Disney opened its shopping district signaling they could perhaps be readying for a return to business operations, however that doesn’t seem immediate.

With these newly announced closures all Disney theme parks in the world will soon be absent guests due to Coronavirus concerns. I would probably expect the parks in Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong to reopen first, however things have been changing so quickly it would be insane to try to make predictions at this point.

Bottom Line

The entire theme park industry is going to be rattled by these new coronavirus realities as we go into what was supposed to be their busy Spring Break season. Disney will suffer significant losses as will smaller regional chains. I’m glad I visited Disneyland last weekend, because it might be awhile before I can pass that way again.
