American Airlines Now Serves Alcohol
The mask requirement was lifted earlier this week for domestic airlines and many airports around the country. And if you’re flying on American Airlines, you can now also enjoy alcohol aboard.
The Fort Worth-based airline resumed alcohol sales on Monday, as it was previously announced. Booze service was halted for domestic flights for more than two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The “buy-on-board” program will offering beer, wine and spirits to customers on flights over 250 miles. Alcohol is complimentary for long-haul international flights and in first class.
You will find the same prices as pre-pandemic when flying American Airlines. Spirits such as new arrival Aviation Gin, rum, vodka and whiskey will be $9. Wine is also $9, while beer will cost $8.
Plans to resume services roughly a year ago were derailed as incidents involving unruly and violent passengers ticked up significantly, as did new Covid-19 cases around the country. Drinking and disputes over the federal mask mandate have contributed to unruly behavior on flights.
Throughout 2021, airlines reported over 5,900 cases of unruly passengers to the FAA. A me majority of those cases were mask-related incidents. This year, airlines have already reported 1,100 cases, which is about 60% less when compared to record-highs in early 2021.
