American Express is sending out a targeted offer to upgrade to the Platinum Delta SkyMiles card. Let’s take a look.

The Offer

  • Earn 25,000 bonus miles after you upgrade to the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Card and spend $2,000 in eligible purchases within the first 3 months on your new card.

Need to Know

  • Offer ends 9/30/19
  • $195 annual fee is NOT waived (You will receive a prorated refund for the fee paid on the card you are upgrading.)

Analysis

The Platinum Delta SkyMiles card does get you a few extra perks (like a Companion Certificate and Miles Boost), however you’ll really need to decide if those perks are worth paying the higher fee. In the end this offer really will only be good if you have a use for the more premium card. If not the value of the 25K miles will largely be offset by the increased cost.
