New Amex Payment System & $10 Free Credit
American Express is launching their own Visa Checkout/Paypal competitor called Amex Express Checkout and is offering a free $10 credit for using the service. Here is how it works:
Make a purchase at one of the following websites by 9/7/15 and pay with Amex Express Checkout to receive the $10 credit:
- barkbox.com
- us.burberry.com
- laithwaiteswine.com
- ledbury.com
- newegg.com
- sabon.com
- ticketmaster.com
- virginwines.com
- warbyparker.com
- wsj.com
- wsjwine.com
Once you get past the fact that the Wall Street Journal has a wine retail website, then you should notice that one of the websites on this list is not like the others. Newegg.com is an electronics retailer, but they also sell a ton of eGift cards which should qualify.
Key Terms
- Offer ends 9/7/15.
- Limit one (1) $10 statement credit per American Express online account per merchant. (I read this to mean you can get the credit at each of the merchants listed above.)
- Offer only valid on orders shipped within the United States and its territories.
- Offer subject to each participating merchant’s shipping policies and restrictions.
- American Express® Cards eligible for this offer are U.S. Consumer and Small Business Credit and Charge Cards. American Express Corporate Cards are not eligible for this offer.
Newegg Test Purchase
Newegg sells a variety of gift cards to popular merchants. While there are too many to name, you can see the categories above. They really do have most of the major brands, so you shouldn’t struggle to find something to buy.
To test this new system I purchased a $10 Home Depot eGift card. The first step was adding the card to my cart. Once in the cart, I scrolled down and selected the Amex Express Checkout button as shown below.
Clicking that button will create a popup asking you to login to your Amex account. The fantastic thing is Amex Express Checkout uses your same username and password from your Amex online account. Simply input that information, choose which of your eligible cards to pay with and your almost done.
I’m not sure if it was because this was the first time I used Amex Express Checkout, but I was sent an access code via my linked email address. Once I received the code I had to input it for the transaction to go through.
When Amex Express Checkout is done, you will be asked to create or login to your Newegg account. As you can see above, I am on the final checkout screen. My subtotal is listed on the right and my payment method is listed as Amex Express Checkout on the left.
Did It Work
Well I didn’t get the confirmation that I will receive a $10 credit, but I did get an email from American Express thanking me for using the service for the first time. Considering the promotion is for doing just that, I fully expect to receive the $10 credit.
Multiple Credits
Update: I have received the credit on multiple accounts. Full details here.
The $10 credit is only good once per online American Express account per merchant. For those people who have decided to separate all of their cards into their own accounts, you could get this credit multiple times at each of the listed merchants. My family personally has four accounts total, so we should be able to take advantage of this promotion 4X at each merchant where it makes sense.
Conclusion
This isn’t the biggest deal in the world, but American Express has designed a simple and easy payment system and is willing to pay you free money to use it. It took me less than 2 minutes from the beginning to the end of the checkout process and I wouldn’t hesitate to use their payment service again if I was planning on paying with my Amex card.

I am reposting. Hopefully someone can give me an answer. “I have a separate account for Serve, does Serve works with this promotion? Have others try it?”
Only Amex issued credit cards with an AmericanExpress.com login are eligible. Serve is not eligible.
Has anyone tried to make more than 1 purchase using the same Amex card from Newegg? If so, were you only credited once? I figure since their terms aren’t accurate maybe you can actually make 10 purchases from the same merchant and receive 10 $10 credits?
Has anyone else figured out how to get gift certificates from ticketmaster? I think the minimum was $25 but with a $10 credit x all of my cards would be great. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Here is the link. http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1A004D9014FD141E
I have received the credit on two accounts linked to the same login. More details here. https://milestomemories.boardingarea.com/amex-express-checkout-credit/
Shawn, to clarify you have one login for your AMEX account and 2 cards show within that 1 login ? Those two cards were tested under that 1 account login and both received credit ? If so thats great
Thanks
Correct. For example, my main login has 6 cards linked to it. Each of the 6 cards received the $10 credit!
Shawn,
I want to let you know that I received the credit today. This might be in your account as well. Thank you for the tip!
Gerry
Thanks Gerry! Good news!
Where did you see the offer? Is there a registration or is it automatic for all AMEX cards? Thanks.
Hi Shawn,
Did you get my question above?

Is this one of those “while supplies last” deals or is it actually good until the date Shawn listed? Is there anywhere to signup like with Amex Sync offers?
Maybe two or three choices won’t requires spending big bucks at web sites on the list. Kind of like my various Amex offers, either too expensive or I don’t receive the good ones.
Shipping was crazy at Sabon.com unless you want to spend $69. Not worth it for me. If anyone know a way around that, please share.
Shawn,
So if I have 4 Amex cards on one online Amex account, how many times can I take advantage of this promo? can I use 4 times, each using different card, but log in using one same account?
And is it necessary to create an online account with NewEgg….no harm if check out as a guest, right?
Hey Jason. I am testing it right now. The terms say once per online account, however some people have said once per card. I made two purchases with cards on the same online account to see if I will receive the credit twice. I’ll report back as soon as I know for sure.
Newegg.com servers have crashed.
Does anyone get a blank screen when they enter their newegg login info for checkout? I don’t get why it doesn’t go thru
I’m also getting that issue on Newegg…
I had a chat with a rep and they said no issue on their servers. I find it weird that I have to sign in again just to complete the order. And when I sign in, I’m led to a blank screen.
Hmm after trying 6 times…just got this message
Thank you for visiting Newegg.com. We are truly sorry for any inconvenience but we are currently experiencing problems on our server. Please try again at a later time.
If you have any questions, please visit our FAQs or simply contact us and our helpful staff will alleviate any concerns you may have.
That is strange. I just completed a checkout 3 minutes ago. You aren’t the only person having issues though.
Here’s the workaround for the blank screen, when you go to checkout, click on “secure checkout” rather than selecting AmEx checkout, it will take you to a screen to choose your shipping address, then to payment screen and you can select AmEx checkout there.
This works! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this!

Hi Shawn,
Regarding ” once per online American Express account per merchant”, I double checked with AMex rep this morning, the rep told me even if I put all my credit cards into one online account, each card (no matter primary card or authorized card) counts as one account. SO, basically we can use multiple times as long as they have multiple cards.
Hope it helps
Thanks for sharing that. I’ll run a test to see if I receive two credits. That would make this a much better deal overall, since the merchants other than Newegg leave a lot to be desired.
newegg doesn’t allow you to buy 2 home depot gift cards within 48 hrs on the same account
Yeah but I could buy any other $10 card.
Looking forward to your results on multiple cards under the same account 🙂
Purchases already made. I’ll report back as soon as I know more.
You can sell the home Depot cats at ABC gift cards for $7.70 and you should get 1.5% back through Extra Bux
