The Death of Amex Offers Automation

A few months ago when the Smart & Final Amex Offer came out, I explained why I was finally motivated enough to create a bunch of Twitter accounts for all of my spare Amex cards. That offer was too good not to maximize on each and every card.

So that day I created Twitter accounts for most of my Amex cards (I left a few Amex issued cards out) and then added them to SyncAssist. SyncAssist is a wonderful tool that automatically tweets out the related hashtag for offers so you don’t need to remember.

Unfortunately Seth the creator of the tool wrote today that Twitter has shut him down. This isn’t surprising I suppose since Offersbot which was a very similar service was shut down as well. Twitter doesn’t like these services that autotweet for others. I sort of understand their thinking, but this usage doesn’t seem harmful at all.

Alternatives

I think the best backup plan to easily tweet out hashtags for offers is to use Tweetdeck. Tweetdeck allows you to add a number of different Twitter accounts and then you can send the same tweet from all of the accounts at once. No it is not automated, but once you have the hashtag, it takes about 30 seconds to register all of your cards for an offer.

I also find it helpful to follow @Offersbot on Twitter since they still post all of the latest hashtags as they become available. You will no longer be able to rely on automatically being registered for the latest promotions, so it is important to stay on top of things. Seth also mentioned that perhaps he will be sending out SyncAssist emails with links to register for offers, so that may be an easy option as well.

Conclusion

Change is the biggest constant in this hobby. While we can no longer rely on SyncAssist to automatically register us for the lastest Amex Offers, there are fortunately relatively easy ways to make sure we don’t miss out. I use Tweetdeck already, so that will be my go to. Do you have another system? Feel free to share in the coomments?
