Look Out For New Amex Platinum Upgrade Offers, 100k MR + $150 Credit
Check your American Express accounts for upgrade offers to the Amex Platinum Card. My wife had an interesting offer in her account today. This offer included both points and a statement credit. Here are the details.
The Offer
This offer was in the “Amex Offers” area of my wife’s account. It showed up on her American Express Gold Card.
- Earn 100,000 Membership Rewards points by upgrading to the Platinum Card
- Must spend at least $6,000 within 6 months
- Receive a $150 statement credit on the account, also
As with other upgrade offers, there shouldn’t be a credit check, since you are not applying for a new card.
Final Thoughts
My wife applied for this and was instantly approved. The confirmation screen said she can keep using her Gold Card until the new card comes in about a week. It’s common to see upgrade offers with points, but the addition of a statement credit sweetened the deal for us. It’s also nice that the offer allows 6 months for meeting the minimum spending requirement, rather than the standard 3 months we see on most cards.
If you’re interested in an upgrade offer for the Amex Platinum Card, make sure to check your accounts. We’ve seen a lot of upgrade offers going around lately, all with varying terms.

JFYI just had a chat with AMEX. I got the same offer in my AMEX Offer area for my Blue Cash Everyday card. Unfortunately the offer is not an upgrade to this card, instead it would be an additional card in my name. 🙁
Other than no credit check, if one is approved for a new card application, is there a reason someone would prefer this offer over a new card offer like the resy 125k SUB with 15x points on small biz and restaurants offer? Are upgrade offers not subject to the lifetime SUB bonus?
Correct – upgrade offers should bypass the “once in a lifetime” language.
My P2 just got this same offer in snail mail yesterday – watch your mailbox!
After resisting many 60K offers over the years, last month I got targeted for this 100K + $150 credit + 5x on restaurants & supermarkets (big categories for me) for 6 months so I took it. Probably will downgrade back to Gold at the end of year but will be fun while I have it.
Have to wait a year after accepting an upgrade offer, before downgrading again, to prevent clawback, right?
Yeah, that’s what I meant, this time next year, not end of the calendar year.
My wife’s offer to upgrade her Gold card was 75,000 points for $6k spend in 6 months, $150 statement credit plus 5x Points at U.S. Supermarkets & Restaurants Worldwide for the first 6 months.
Oh that is a great one too
Meh, okay. But I did just watch Tommy Boy, so props!
Such a great movie Chris 🙂
