  1. Amazing to me that someone who “obsesses” about the Big Island can mention 14 things about it yet omit its unique culture & history.

    King Kamehameha was the founder and first ruler of the Kingdom of Hawaii. You can visit his birthplace in one town on the BI & follow the Royal Trail to where he grew up under protection & then to the fort where he ruled publicly.

    Visit the Koloko-Honorary National Historic Park in Kona or the Pu’ukohola Heiau. Both parks have deserted beaches along with ruins of villages and temples. With the ocean wind blowing about you & acres of undeveloped space, a visit here leaves an understanding and profound feel of native Hawaiian culture. Starr’s review of what is the essence of sacred ground is trivial & silly by comparison.
