Southwest Airlines Goes the Extra Mile for Young Boy – Travel Pulse

I love when companies do stuff like this.  Southwest used to do this stuff all the time which is why people loved them with a passion but they have gotten away from it a bit as their size grew.

What the reinvention of Europe’s favorite city means for travelers – CNN Travel

There are some pretty expansive projects on the list.  I think hosting the Olympics is always a financial strain that never pays off like people think it will.  But seeing what locations are willing to do when they host the even is always interesting to see.  Cleaning up the Seine river is going to be no small task.

TRAVEL MISTAKE: BOOKING RESORTS WITH UNHEATED POOLS IN WINTER – Miles for Family

I chose to share this article mainly because I have a bone to pick with the Hyatt Grand Cypress in Orlando.  They have this amazing pool that is unusable most of the year because it is ice cold. That is why I choose to stay at the Hyatt Regency on Intercontinental Drive instead.  I have never understood why warm weather destinations wouldn’t heat their pools during the colder months. It really does ruin the trip sometimes.

  1. Im actually at the Grand Cypress and the pool is definitely heated. I asked the front desk and it was a recent addition. I remember also last time it was cold. But now, come and enjoy!

  2. Are you engaging in a little hyperbole on the pool thing? I just checked the weather for Orlando and the average highs are 78 degrees or higher for nine months out of the year. As someone who grew up in Miami, I can attest that you can easily swim with temperatures in that range unless there’s some special circumstance to make the water unusually cold, like being in permanent shade.

    • The pool at the hotel I spoke about is massive and partially shaded by cliffs and it is cold. Most of the pools there are heated because it is not comfortable to swim in them when it is in the 70’s but drops to the 50’s during the night.

    • Wrong. 78 degrees is the high most days. Overnight water cools and never really heats up. Water should be over 80 to be comfortable. If the air is 78 it will never be above 70-72 and that’s COLD for water.

  3. They don’t heat the pools for the same reason they want you to reuse your towels. It is a big improvement to their bottom line.
