They funded the town for the entire year in 3 months but people despised them, even store owners that needed them. I see similar things with Venice although the cruise ships coming right into town is kind of crazy and just doesn’t look right.

Some amazing people and trips in the piece. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be at times to travel in a wheelchair. It is inspiring to see them deal with all of it and persevere and continue to follow their dreams and their wanderlust. Especially seeing how often airlines break their wheelchairs or scooters.

Interesting to hear about you growing up in a tourist town that nonetheless hated tourists. I’ve only experienced that in the Bahamas, although they also hated Americans, so it was kind of a double whammy. If you don’t mind my asking, where did you grow up?
I lived in a small town in northern Michigan for 4-5 years called East Tawas. Lakeside community where people would come up to camp and stay at the lakeside resorts all summer.
I just spent two weeks in Venice and I am sick and tired of the media paint in Venice like it’s closed for business. ..!
Many of my friends are restaurants owners and hotel owners and managers and everyone said Venice was back to normal three days after the November 12 highwater incident. But the media painted it as though the entire city was completely underwater. Reservations are down for November December January. Hopefully people will come back for carnival in February if not Venice will see a huge economic decline. While I was in Venice to BBC ran an article saying that all the canals were dry and muddy… They were not. It’s completely disrespectful to the people who work hard and earn businesses in Venice and it needs to stop
Hopefully they don’t have too big of a drop off. I am sure a lot of the business owners probably struggle to get by in the off-season and this would make it tough on them.
