I collected hundreds of thousands of credit card points over the past 10 years—but now I wonder why – CNBC
This is such a weird article that I had to share it. I think I know where the writer was trying to go but it just ended abruptly without really going anywhere. Plus it lacks the details necessary to see where he thinks he went so wrong. What kind of points was he collecting? Can he simply cash them out (can if they are transferrable currencies) or not? I get the despair of these times and feeling like sitting on these points is a waste but he never really got there.

I saw the word “stockpiling” and realized that’s where he went wrong. I spends my points on what makes me happy as much as I can and as often as possible instead of worrying on what the redemption “value” of those points should be.
The MakeIt section of CNBC is their answer to Business Insider and aimed at that audience accordingly. Like Forbes contributors, the articles reflect more of the contributor than the publication itself.
I don’t understand the Costco comment…you earn 5% at Sam’s club under their new scheme in the same way you currently earn 4% at Costco – 2% from the card and 2% by being executive.
The Sam’s club card earns 3% vs only 2% for Costco
I found the CNBC article to be pretty dubious. Accruing multiple travel currencies isn’t for everyone and do this long enough and you’ll surely end up with some stray points. People who aimlessly sign up for random cards is like somebody buying car parts from different companies, just a bad idea. Still, it’s nice to see an opposing perspective from TPG’s shameless hucksterism.
It could have taught above focusing on what you know you can use but it just fell short of that. He never really made it there or explained what he was getting at. Opportunity wasted in my opinion.
