Brex closed Nick’s account and there’s some cause for concern- Frequent Miler

A start up having customer service issues isn’t all that uncommon. I don’t agree with Nick’s conclusions. The money is FDIC insured so people panicking should understand that.  Brex also recently applied to become a bank charter.  They have been around and are known in their sector and have a huge backing. For anyone to compare them to The Plastic Merchant is so far out of the realm it is laughable (discussed in the comments).  One was a guy in his basement and the other has hundreds of millions in investment and once again your money is FDIC insured vs a guy owing you from a spreadsheet.   People said the same thing about SoFi when we broke the news on that offer and their name is on a Football Stadium now so….

I will also say I have not heard of anyone not getting paid out that completed the offer.

Italy has a new way to combat overtourism – CNN Travel

I am surprised they haven’t tried something like this sooner to be honest.

  1. I was approved really quickly and completed the offer pretty soon afterwards; I was just procrastinating and dilly-dallying in making a decision on what to do with the points. Should I just take the cold hard spondoolies or transfer to a FF program, I kept asking myself. Nick’s article just served to kick my butt into gear. I transferred to AsiaMiles.

I am not closing my account, though. I think it has some good features. I did agree, nevertheless, with Nick’s sentiment that it is probably wise to redeem points quickly in start up situations.

    • Yeah I think not keeping a ton of anything in a start up is always the way to go until you see how it plays out for a bit.

  2. I applied and supplied all the documention they needed but crickets. I haven’t heard anything at all. Not a good start.

    • Their customer service is not great (not surprising for a startup). I had to wait a few weeks and then I noticed I hadn’t selected virtual or regular card and then my account was allowed to deposit money. I imagine they are swamped and that is why they pulled the offer early. But since there is no hard pull or anything it is worth the chance anyway. Hopefully you get the approval soon!
