Bookit.com Shuts Down Leaving Customers Stranded with No Refunds

A popular online travel agency, Bookit.com, has shut down. Customers say they are stranded at resorts and elsewhere right now because Bookit never paid for their vacations. To make matters worse, there is no way to contact anyone at Bookit.com. They have closed all call centers and the company is offering so assistance whatsoever.

A notice posted on the website includes the U.S. State Department’s logo and says:

In response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Crisis now unfolding, BookIt.com has paused normal operations, and the international destinations we service have closed their borders to arrivals.

Due to the nature of this unprecedented pandemic, we have had to close our call centers in Florida, Jamaica, and El Salvador. This, effectively, means that we will be unable to provide agent assistance in cancelling any upcoming trips.

Many people are complaining on social media. They are stranded abroad as Bookit has failed to make reservations that were paid for. They either have to pay out of pocket for a second time, or have no place to stay at all.

There are many more stories like these. Let us know if you have used Bookit recently and if you are affected by this.

  1. Trying to get a refund for our flight we booked with bookit. The airline canceled the flight and they are saying they don’t get the money from bookit until after the flight occurs. Now we can’t call bookit to request a refund, so I’m guessing we are SOL

  2. Trying to get a refund and no luck in addition we paid for the Cancel for any reason travel insurance with travel guard and they said they will only issue 50% if the trip cost bc pandemics isn’t in their fine print

  3. People don’t learn. How good a deal was that? People people people, when you buy from discounters your taking a huge risk they will be around when you travel. There is a reason they sell at a discount. It’s called they are working on very slim margins by discounting their price by their commission earned. That deal isn’t a deal anymore when your stranded and have to pay twice.

    • People don’t kick others when they’re down and rub it in their faces that they’re experiencing misfortune. Is Expedia untrustworthy? This is what they do? Not everyone has the your Nostradamus-like ability to predict the future. Please think, does your comment help? If it doesn’t then you should probably keep it to yourself.
