Breeze Airways Looks to Expand Internationally
Breeze Airways is about to turn two years old. The low-cost carrier launched on May 27, 2021, with its inaugural flight from Tampa International Airport to Charleston International Airport. Since then Breeze has added more destinations with recent additions bringing the total to 34.
Now the airline is looking to expand across the border. Breeze Airways has applied to the US Department of Transportation for permission to fly to Mexico with weekly service from Los Angeles International (LAX) to Los Cabos (SJD) using the 137-seat A220-300. The application specifies just one route, but if approved, the airline can serve any other airports between the two countries.
Flying from Los Angeles to Los Cabos is likely not the real goal for Breeze Airways as its business model is to fly unserved and underserved routes. But they probably don’t want to reveal just yet their exact intentions.
Major airlines such as American Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines already provide service between Los Angeles to Los Cabos. Breeze would only be able to compete with much more affordable prices than the competition.
In the application Breeze says that it will have 7,124 seats for sale each way for the year round service. It expects to carry 5,720 passengers each way for an annual average seat load factor of 80.3%. In the first year, it says it would achieve total revenue of $755,040.
