Canada Extends International Border Closures & Mandatory Quarantine
Canada has announced an extension of its global travel ban and mandatory quarantine measures for visitors to the country. It requires most travelers to Canada, including citizens returning home, to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival.
The mandatory quarantine order will be in effect at least until August 31, while the travel ban for most other foreign travelers is extended to at least July 31, US News reports. These measures were previously set to expire at the end of June.
US and Canada have a separate travel agreement regarding travel between the two countries. The border will remain closed to all non-essential travel until at least July 21, as it was announced last month. U.S. citizens who are not deemed essential are still subject to the quarantine.
Failure to comply with Canada’s quarantine order can result in a maximum fine of up to C$750,000 and/or imprisonment for six months. That’s about $555K.
As of June 29, Canada had 104K cases of COVID-19 and around 8,600 deaths.

Canada needs to open up to the US even if there is a restriction that US visitors must check in online daily, cannot use public transit, cannot go to restaurants or stores.
