Canada to Require Air Travelers and Cruise Passengers to Be Vaccinated
If you want to travel in Canada, you will soon need to be vaccinated. The Canadian government will require all commercial air travelers, passengers on trains between provinces and cruise ship passengers to be vaccinated.
“As soon as possible in the Fall and no later than the end of October, the Government of Canada will require employees in the federally regulated air, rail, and marine transportation sectors to be vaccinated. The vaccination requirement will also extend to certain travelers. This includes all commercial air travelers,” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said Friday in a statement, as reported by AP.
The government is also requiring vaccinations for all federal public servants in the country.
Canada has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. As of Aug. 12, 63% of Canadians have been fully vaccinated and more than 72% have received at least one dose.
Alghabra said additional measures are needed to encourage more people to get vaccinated and to protect the hard won gains the country has made to flatten the curve. Cases are starting to creep up again in Canada, but they are still generally low.
The federal government is also working on a vaccine passport that can be used within Canada.
