Chase Denying Matches to Better Credit Card Offers

Chase has always been great at matching better credit card offers. If you apply for a card and then a better bonus comes out, Chase would normally match you to that better offer. The process was also quick and easy. You could just send a secured message and they would take care of it.

But recently Chase is denying these requests. It has now happened repeatedly with several recent offers, where Chase reps are telling cardholders that they cannot be matched to a better bonus. This was an issue new Chase Sapphire Preferred 80K bonus was released. And now people are being denied for a match to the new Chase IHG Premier card 140K bonus that was launched yesterday.

Conclusion

We’re not sure if this is just a temporary policy change, or if it’s a thing that we now need to get used to. Let me know if you have recently contacted Chase to match to a better credit card offer, or if you have had any success in recent months.

  1. A friend applied for the Chase Preferred Sapphire the day before the offer increased to 80K. He spoke to multiple reps and a supervisor and was shut down for a match.

  2. That’s strange, I had no problem successfully getting Chase to upgrade me to the new 100k IHG travelers club offer. Same $2k spend as the 80k offer I originally received 2-3 weeks ago. I messaged through the app. Keep trying everybody!

  3. This happened to me for a CSP card I opened in August. Honestly it didn’t bother me that they wouldn’t upgrade me. What was frustrating was they denied that they had ever upgraded card offers before and they claimed that the upgraded public offer may not have been available to me. Just say the policy has changed, don’t make up crap excuses.

  4. Was one of those denied for the additional 20000 points after being approved for the CSP on 6/29. So looking to possibly for the CFF since I’m 4/24. Just wondering how soon I should apply…

  5. I am running 0/3 on retention offers from Chase (Hyatt, Southwest, and IHG), on cards that I’ve had for 10s of years with come and go spending records, but still $100k or more of spending over that time probalby twice that, and nearly $100k currently in a Chase Sapphire account, which all appears to mean nothing to them. At least cancelling the cards lets me recycle the SUBs. While AMEX, running 2/2 on great no spending needed bonuses, 20k Delta miles and 20k Marriott points, as well as the AF off-sets.
