Chase Freedom Flex Will Have Very Limited Product Change Options

UPDATE 10/23/20: They have been allowing all Ultimate Rewards earning cards to be product changed to the Flex since the launch.

As you probably know by now, Chase has announced a new product called Freedom Flex that will launch later this month. You can check out the details of the card here. The card offers a good welcome bonus, 5% rotating categories and more. And there’s no annual fee. It could even spell the end of Chase Sapphire cards.

Since the announcement we have learned some more details about the card, and more importantly some of the rules that will apply. We know already that the Freedom Flex will be a new product, different from the current Freedom and Freedom Unlimited cards. So you can receive the welcome bonus once it goes live, even if you have received it for the other Freedom cards recently. So it could make sense to apply for the Freedom now and even convert any eligible cards to Freedom cards to lock in as much 5% spending bandwidth for the rotating categories.

Based on information from Chase, we have also learned that you will be allowed to have only one Freedom Flex card, even through product change. That could be the wrong info, but that’s the details that have been put out so far. Now Frequent Miler has revealed another interesting piece of of information.

Besides not being able to have more than one Freedom Flex card, it will only be possible  to product change from an existing Chase Freedom card. That means that it will not be possible to product change from a Sapphire, Freedom Unlimited or Slate card. That is another reason to start looking to convert your eligible Chase cards into Freedom cards now, before September 14. It is likely the only avenue to a Freedom Flex card for those who are over Chase 5/24 and are not apply to apply and get approved for the card.

Conclusion

The information received so far says that you will only be able to have one Freedom Flex card. If you want to get it through product changing another Chase card, you will only be able to do so from the current Chase Freedom card.

  1. Might be old news, but I was just able to product change my CSR to the CFF, so seems like there are more product change options than mentioned above.

  2. Is it possible to product change from a Freedom Unlimited to the current version of the Freedom? Or do you have to downgrade from a CSP/CSR?
