Chase Southwest Business Premier 60K Bonus
Much digital ink has been spilled over the Southwest Companion Pass during the past week. As you probably know by now, on 1/1 Southwest abruptly changed their policies to exclude hotel transfers from the Companion Pass, only to issue a brief reprieve through March.
One thing that isn’t changing though is how they treat credit card points. Under both the old and new rules, points earned from credit card bonuses and spending WILL count towards the Companion Pass. One of the best strategies then is to try to get as high a bonus as possible in order to get yourself close.
Thankfully, Southwest is making that a bit easier with a new increased bonus on their Business Premier Card.
The Offer
Earn 60,000 points when you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months.
Need to Know
- $99 annual fee is not waived the first year
- Earn 2X on Southwest and 1X everywhere else.
- 6,000 bonus points on card anniversary
- No foreign transaction fee
Strategy & 5/24
The Southwest cards are unfortunately subject to the Chase 5/24 rule. This means that many of you most likely won’t be able to get this offer. If you are under 5/24, you could get this card and be 57% of the way to your Companion Pass once hitting the minimum spending. You could also try to get this card along with a 50K offer on a personal Southwest card and get the Companion Pass without any additional work.
Southwest vs. Sapphire Reserve
As you might have heard, the online bonus on the Sapphire Reserve is dropping to 50K tomorrow, although you’ll still be able to get it in-branch until at least March. When getting Chase cards that are subject to 5/24, it is important to consider which ones are most important. This is a great deal, but unless you know you need the Companion Pass, the Sapphire Reserve is probably the best overall card if you had to pick only one.
Conclusion
Not only does this match the highest bonus we have seen on the Southwest business credit card, but the bonus is quite valuable as well. For many this won’t be an attainable card and there is an argument that you might want to get another card instead, but if you are under 5/24 and if that Companion Pass is in your sights, then this is a great deal!

[…] Chase Southwest Business Premier 60K Bonus Surfaces: Does It Make Sense to Apply? […]
Hi Shawn, I am wondering how long will the 60000 sign up bonus last? Also, my wife applied for both the personal (was approved) and the business (was denied) even though the personal was only the 4th CC she has gotten in the last 24 months. They said she had too man open cards with Chase and that the 5/24 is just an internet rumor.
I am not sure how long it will be around. The last time it surfaced the offer lasted a couple of months. 5/24 is more of a guideline and not something set in stone. You can get denied when having less and some people get through with more, but there is enough data to suggest 5/24 is real to some extent.
Thanks for the reply. I have one last question, does the 2 years per signup bonus go by the date of opening the account or by the date that I received the bonus? Thanks again
