Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfer Partners: Flying Blue Added

Chase hasn’t been adding a ton of new transfer partners to their Ultimate Rewards program lately, but it is probably the most valuable of the flexible points programs anyway. With popular partners like Hyatt and United and niche partners like Korean Air and Singapore, the program gives you a lot of options for valuable redemptions.

Today, Chase added its 7th airline partner and 11th partner overall. As of now you can transfer Ultimate Rewards to Air France KLM Flying Blue at a 1:1 ratio. For example, 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points become 1,000 Flying Blue miles.

Why Is This Good?

Anytime something is added rather than taken away it is good news, but this is good news for other reasons. Flying Blue often runs promotions giving discounted award redemptions and they also have award space that is only open to their own members. Flying Blue also partners with Amex Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou and SPG Starpoints meaning it could be easier to combine points from different programs to get enough for an award.

Conclusion

Ultimate Rewards is the best flexible points currency in my opinion and it just got better. Hopefully we will see more partner additions to the program. In the end we now have more options to get to Europe and beyond with Ultimate Rewards and that is a welcome move in the right direction.

  1. Shawn, do you think UR points are better than SPG? I would appreciate any examples you could give to educate me. I have both kinds, but certainly find earning SPG points is harder based on my spending. Thanks.

    • They certainly are different. Since SPG points transfer to airlines at 1.25:1 when transferring in 20K chunks they tend to be seen as more valuable. Additionally like you say they are much harder to earn. I tend to use them more sparingly and would rather use UR if I can make it work.
