Citi 5X Targeted Spending Offer

One of my favorite things about getting the mail (ok the only thing I like about getting the mail) is receiving targeted offers. Very rarely I get an offer to sign-up for something, but more often I receive a targeted spending offer on a credit card.

Right now Citi is sending out spending offers to some holders of their ThankYou Premier card. My wife just received the following offer:

Use your Citi ThankYou Premier card to earn 5X ThankYou Points on eligible purchases you make at: Clothing Stores, Computer & Electronics Stores, Department Stores & Toy Stores.

Terms

  • Respond by 2/28/2017 to enroll.
  • Earn up to 2,500 ThankYou points now thorugh 3/31/2017.

Analysis

With a cap of 2,500 points this isn’t a hugely scalable promotion, but earning 5X ThankYou points definitely makes it worth using the ThankYou Premier at those types of stores. Offers like these are a good reminder that you probably want to be opted-in to receive both email and physical mail promotions. It pays not to throw away what initially looks like junk!

  1. I’ve received the same offer. Can you think of any store in this category that would sell a $500 Visa or Mastercard gift card?
