Citi American Airlines Credit Card Bonus 50,000 Miles and 100 credit

Citi American Airlines Bonus, 50,000 Miles + $100 Credit

Citi has brought back an  offer for the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select Card, that will give you 50,000 AA miles and a $100 credit. There’s currently a 60K offer that most people will probably prefer. Let’s take a look at the details.

The Offer

For a limited-time:

  • Earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after spending $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening
  • Plus new cardmembers can earn up to $100 in statement credits on eligible American Airlines purchases in the first 12 months of account opening.
  • $95 Annual fee is waived the first year

Application Page

Bonus Restrictions

Many will not be eligible for these bonuses because of Citi’s anti churning rules.  The restrictions on personal Citi cards are as follows:

  • American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi® / AAdvantage® card (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.

Earning Structure

This card has the following earning structure:

  • 2 AAdvantage miles per $1 spent on American Airlines purchases
  • 1 AAdvantage miles per $1 spent everywhere else

Cardmember Perks

The card comes with the following perks:

  • First checked bag free
  • Priority boarding
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • 10% of your miles back on reward bookings up to 10,000 miles per year
  • The card gives you access to reduced mileage awards

Sign Up Bonus Value $750

AAdvantage miles have taken a nose dive in value over the last few years.  I currently value them a 1.3 cents a piece which puts the sign up bonus value at $650 + $100 credit.  Feel free to substitute in your own value for AAdvantage miles.

Conclusion

AAdvantage miles are not the prized possession they used to be.  They have gone through a couple of devaluations over the last few years, and American Airlines’ saver award availability is at all time lows.  Having said that this can still be a valuable sign up offer for most. $750 in value should not be overlooked. As always make sure you have a use for the miles before applying and you could also opt for the other bonus of 60K miles. At the 1.3 cpp valuation, that bonus would be worth $780.

The card also comes with some decent perks, but the personal card’s are superior.  The priority boarding and 10% mileage rebate may be the best two perks on either card. As for earning miles through spending, the card is not really worth it.

Will you be taking advantage of the increased offers?

  1. How is this an “increased” signup offer? They DECREASED the miles by 10,000 – and added the $100 statement credit.
