Citi Matching Better Credit Card Offers Again
Citi used to be very good at matching better credit card offers, if you had recently applied for an inferior bonus. But in recent years we have seen them become more strict with matching. They started asking for proof of new offers, and then flat out refusing to match at all.
We’re writing this because of a new increased bonus for the Citi premier credit card. If you apply now, you can earn 80,000 ThankYou points. But if you applied for the lesser 60,000 points offer, there’s still hope.
One of our MtM Diamond Slack members, was able to request a match through chat and was immediately approved.
He had applied for the 60K offer only about five days before the new increased offer came out. But you should be able to request a match if you have applied within the last 90 days usually, based on previous experiences. No extra spending is required, as both offers have the same spending threshold.
Conclusion
If you recently applied for an inferior Citi signup bonus, then reach out and ask to get matched to a better offer that you find online. This should be useful for those who applied for the Citi Premier with a 60K bonus, before it was increased to 80K. You should be able to get an extra 20K with no effort.
It’s definitely worth a try. And please let us know if it works for you!

Yeah applied for the Citi premier 60 days ago at 60,000. Denied multiple times via chat. I think may have gotten lucky
No luck on the AA card.
No luck on the AA card. I applied for the 60k miles for 3k spend offer, and 2 hours later I saw the 75k for 3.5k spend. Chatted twice, called twice, denied all four times. 🙁
no luck an AA card, chatted/call a few times
no luck on citi premier. HUCA 3x
Seems a bit preemptive to assume this is standard policy after just one datapoint.
[…] 6/26/22: Over the past year, Citi was much stricter about matching public offers; however, MtM reports that now they seem to be back to matching public offers […]
No luck on the AA card (now 75k, was 60k).
