All Delta Cardholders Will Get 15% Discount on Award Bookings
We wrote earlier this month about a possible new benefit for the American Express Delta Reserve. It’s called ‘TakeOff 15’ and it was showing briefly on the card’s description on the American Express website.
Cardholders would get a 15% discount on SkyMiles awards. This is how this benefit would work:
- Visit Delta.com or the Fly Delta app and log in to your Delta SkyMiles account
- Choose “Shop with Miles” when searching for Delta flights for your itinerary
- The 15% miles discount will automatically be reflected.
But what’s interesting is that this new benefit will be available on all Delta SkyMiles credit cards. Well, all besides the Delta Blue card.
New marketing materials mailed out to some cardholders show the 15% discount for the Amex Delta Gold card. And the fine print suggests that it will be available for consumer and business Delta Gold, Platinum, and Reserve cards.
Here are the details of this benefit which were first shared on reddit:
- TakeOff 15 Eligibility: Basic Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum, and Reserve American Express Card Members, as well as Basic Delta SkyMiles Gold, Platinum, and Reserve Business American Express Card Members (each, an “Eligible Card”), can get at least a fifteen percent (15%) discount off the mileage portion of an Award Ticket (the “TakeOff 15” benefit). Additional Card Members are not eligible.

Discount only applies to the mileage portion of the Award Ticket fare and does not apply to applicable taxes and ices, which must be paid using the Eligible Card Card Member must be logged -in to a SkyMiles account linked to an Eligible Card to receive the TakeOff 15 benefit discount Mileage discount will be greater than or equal to 15% of the overall mile portion for the Award Ticket, An Award Ticket is a ticket issued by Delta pursuant to the SkyMiles Program Rules, by which SkyMiles members may redeem miles and pay applicable government imposed taxes and fees in exchange for air transportation. All Award Ticket rules apply, as set forth on delta.com and in the specific terms incorporated into your Award Ticket. Award Travel is defined as travel using an Award Ticket. Award Travel seats are limited and may not be available on all flights or in all markets. SkyMiles account balance must have sufficient miles for the entire Award Tickets) being purchased. Take Off 15 benefit is not combinable with certificates, Delta Credits, Delta Gift Cards. vouchers, or with any other discounts or promotional offers.
Conclusion
It’s interesting to see these benefit added to all Delta credit cards. This will be a good incentive to get, and possibly keep one of the cards long term.
The wording, “at least a 15% discount” also suggests that we might see discount of more than 15%. Maybe Delta Reserve cardholders can save even more?

Multipole flights I was looking at yestreday, spread through the year (Feb, March, July, Sept.), are all now 10% higher for miles! That was a quick jump up.
When does this start? I’m not seeing it.
Went live today.
Wow – really looking forward to 15% off the now 76000 miles it takes to go US to Asia. Gee. Great.
I usually see 375K+ for Delta redemptions. I’d say you’re doing wonderfully!
76k SkyPesos for Economy, maybe. In any case, this “15% discount” is nothing more than lipstick on a pig.
Bogus benefit. Pricing award ticket using Virgin Atlantic miles on Delta flights offers most of the times a bigger discount.
1. Booked one-way SLC to ATL. 27500 DL Sky Pesos vs 12500 Virgin Atlantic miles.
2. Booked one-way ATL to DUB. 100000DL Sky Pesos vs 30000 Virgin Atlantic miles.
Plus take off additional 30% as I transferred MRs during Amex transfer promotion.
So don’t fall for this trap.
You’re not wrong but for flights on Delta metal, there are many pairs without codesharing. I know this all too well because I purchased on of the Air France gift card promotions a few years ago and found fewer than half of the Delta-operated flights MCO-ATL had an AF code. While hyped to the moon (Bastian’s specialty), this expansion of SkyMiles competes head-on with United award seats in which reduced costs are limited to elites and co-branded cardholders on United metal without code sharing.
Indeed. On my primary DL route, only occasionally do I find partner awards availability.
