Delta Airlines Flash Sale to Alaska and Hawaii
Delta Airlines has announced a flash sale on award flights to Alaska and Hawaii. The awards start at 20,000 Skymiles to Alaska and 35,000 Skymiles to Hawaii. It is hard to tell how much of a discount this is since Delta has removed their award chart, but it looks like a 5,000 Skymile discount on each round trip award ticket.
The Deal
The discounted rates are as follows:
- 20,000 Skymiles round trip to Alaska
- 35,000 Skymiles round trip to Hawaii

Availability
I did some quick checking and it looks like there is some decent availability (a rarity these days).
Here is a sample of Detroit (DTW) to Anchorage (ANC) for two people:
The cash price on the flights I chose were between $500 and $600 giving you a minimum value of 2.5 cents per Skymile.
I also checked Seattle (SEA) to Honolulu (HNL) for two people:
The cash price on the flights I chose were $519.40 giving you a value of 1.45 cents per Skymile after deducting award taxes. Not as lucrative as the flights to Alaska but I am guessing most people would rather be in Hawaii during the winter months!
The last one I checked was Boston (BOS) to Kahului (OGG) for two people:
The cash price on the flights I chose were $705.59 which is a value of 1.98 cents per Skymile after accounting for taxes.
Conclusion
While Delta no longer offering an award chart is annoying, these seem to be legit sales. The standard value placed on Delta Skymiles is 1.25 cents per point. Each of the sample flights I looked at came in with a value higher than that, with the Alaska flight getting double that valuation.
If you were planning on going to any of these locations make sure to book them by 11:59pm tomorrow night, September 14th 2017. Keep in mind though that there may be better options using other programs, so this is probably only a good deal if you have Skymiles to burn.
You can also boost your Delta Skymiles account, if needed, by transferring American Express Membership Rewards to Delta at a 1 to 1 ratio. Remember they charge you a small fee for transferring to Delta ($0.0006 per point).

Funny how this seems to be a response to the Virgin and Alaska flash cash sale. Makes Delta seem like a bully.
I am sure that played a part in it. Competition bringing prices down is always a win in my book 🙂
