Delta Sent Plane to London to Bring 1,000 Stranded Luggage to U.S.
The London’s Heathrow airport is having major issues due to staff shortages and spiking travel demand. The airline recently announced a cap on daily passengers and asked airlines to stop selling additional tickets.
The airport doesn’t have enough check-in staff, ground crew or baggage handlers. That’s resulting in major delays, cancellations and even lost bags.
Things have gotten so bad that Delta Air Lines had to fly a plane full of luggage from Heathrow Airport in London to Detroit. The luggage belonged to Delta customers who had recently traveled through Heathrow.
Delta decided to send the plane, an Airbus A330-200, to deliver 1,000 pieces of stranded luggage to Detroit on Monday, NYT reports. No passengers were aboard. Then the airline transported the luggage to their owners across the United States.
Staffing shortages and increasing air travel demand have been a big issue worldwide. Most airports and airlines have been affected. 4th of July weekend was especially brutal with more than 1,400 cancellations of U.S. flights.

Great job Delta. Now if you can just make sure my flight next month doesn’t get cancelled.
