Rumored Delta Sky Club Restrictions for Amex Cardholders
Delta Sky Clubs are some of the best options to relax at the airport before boarding your flights. There are more than 50 locations around the world with varying amenities such as hot meals, drinks and cocktails, and even showers.
Delta doesn’t sell day passes to its airport lounges. So the only way to get in is by purchasing a first or business class ticket or having elite status on international flights. And you can also get access through American Express credit cards such as Amex Platinum, Delta Reserve and Delta Platinum.
But that access could be severely restricted soon, if newly surfaced reddit rumors are to be believed. The information comes from a user that claims to be an Amex employee and he provides plenty of details.
We do not know for sure whether any of this is true, but here’s what is being reported:
- Amex Delta Reserve credit card will only get 10 complimentary visits per year and only for the primary cardmember. Authorized users can access lounges, but those visits will count against the 10 limit. To keep unrestricted access for basic cardmember and additional users, you must spend $75,000 per year.
- Amex Platinum credit card will be limited to 6 complimentary visits per year.
- Amex Delta Platinum credit card could possibly lose Sky Club access altogether, but it has not been decided yet. It could also be limited to 10 paid visits annually.
Conclusion
These are big restrictions for cardholders that find themselves often at Delta Sky Clubs. Especially if you have the Delta Reserve or Amex Platinum card, you’re losing considerable benefits while still paying a very high annual fee.
But as I mentioned above, this is just a rumor for now, so let’s wait for a month or two to see how things shake out. These changes will start to apply sometime in January or February of 2024, and will be fully implemented by 2025. Emails will supposedly be sent out to cardholders by September and October of 2023.

Access to the Sky Clubs with my Amex Platinum is the primary reason I switched to Delta. A decision I would definitely rethink if I lost access.
Agree completely. I just sent a comment in to Delta. I’ve been Platinum status for about 6 years and would both downgrade my AmEx Cards and switch airlines to United (where I can get the Chase United Club Card) if this went through.
Sounds like might be some bad info..Delta Amex Platinum does not get any access to lounge now. So possibly limiting it, sounds like bad info.
For $50 yes DL AMEX PLATINUM does get sky club access so arricle accurate.
Will definitely downgrade my reserve card to basic if this happens. Why pay for a reserve card if there are no benefits? Will charge everything on my capital one card instead or start shopping for a new travel card. Amex is not the only game in town. The way Delta has been devaluing skymiles, it might be time to dump Delta altogether. I’m tired of paying a premium for little benefit.
Delta Amex Platinum card holders have the ability to pay $50 per person per visit and according to this, that would be limited to 10 times a year. Which is silly, because anyone using that access anywhere near 10 times a year should upgrade to Reserve or get a real Amex Platinum.
You have access at $50 per visit. That is not open to non-Amex Plat card holders. This would limit you to 10 visits at $50 per year.
