Delta Wants to Create National  “No-Fly” List

Delta Air Lines is urging the White House to create a national  “no-fly” list for problematic passengers. Airlines have seen an alarming surge of incidents involving unruly passengers who defy COVID-19 protocols and harass or even attack flight crews.

The Federal Aviation Administration fielded 5,981 reports of unruly passengers last year, 4,290 of which were related to masking.

Edward Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland last week asking for the federal government’s help in setting up a nationwide no-fly list.

Delta has already placed more than 2,000 passengers on its own no-fly list. Other airlines have also taken similar steps with unruly guests. But without a unified national list, these bans have limited effect.

The Delta CEO said that creating a national no-fly list for unruly passengers would “help prevent future incidents and serve as a strong symbol of the consequences of not complying with crew member instructions on commercial aircraft,” according to Reuters.

The White House has taken some steps recently to go after those who misbehave on-board. Attorney General Merrick Garland in late November ordered the Justice Department to prioritize the prosecution of unruly passengers. The TSA has also threatened to revoke PreCheck privileges for people who act out on planes and doubled its fines for those who refuse to wear masks.

  1. Huh? Karens and Kens are self-appointed mask police.
    The title makes no sense.
Also.. masks mandates can take a hike – end the virtue signalling once and for all

  2. Good on Delta! They should at least allow them to share this list with United & American so that these troglodytes stick to Spirit Airlines where they belong.

  3. Press the WH to do what, exactly? Enhance/enforce or lighten/revoke. I can’t tell what you mean. I agree that unruly passengers need to stop flying if they won’t comply with the mandates the airlines decide to impose. If you don’t like wearing a mask during COVID, don’t fly commercial. Our personal opinions don’t override their rules or procedures.

  4. Maybe DL should instead take another look at the mask policy and press the WH on that. It just might solve a lot of these problems.

    • What? And, let the 1700 non-mask-related jerks not be dealt with? How would you propose dealing with them? I witnessed a forceful non-mask-related security incident on board an aircraft. Once you witness one, perhaps you’ll change your mind.

    • agree with you 100% most of these people didn’t do anything wrong they were just put on to a no fly list from no sensible reason. before a person is being put on to such a list this should be determined by a judge etc not by flight attendant …

      • What do you mean? You think flight attendants single out MOSTLY people that are not unruly and get them banned with no reason or corroboration? That could be either easily rectified or actionable, especially if you have witnesses.

I know they wouldn’t do that at any high percentage, considering they are in the public eye. Certainly there will be a case here or there that needs reconsideration, but definitely no way that most of them are unfounded.
