Alaska Airlines American Earning Rates
Alaska Airlines has announced that American flights credited to Alaska will earn different rates for travel on or after August 1, 2016. These changes are to better align earning rates to the new American Airlines AAdvantage revenue based earning program. Specifically:
For travel beginning Aug. 1, 2016, the structure of earning Mileage Plan miles when flying on American Airlines-operated flights will change. The chart below has the specific details.
As is usual, some flights will earn more miles, but the vast majority will earn less. Here is the old chart where all economy tickets earn 100%:
And here is how the new one looks. Notice that fare classes have been broken out significantly and how the vast majority of flights in economy class earn far less.
Analysis
This change isn’t surprising and it eliminates a potential loophole that many were looking to take advantage of when the revenue based earning was implemented. Oops never mind it is on their “website” but not the chart
Look at the missing P first class fare on the new chart. I pray that’s a mistake.
Disappointing to see Alaska adjust miles I am still in the camp that says a mile flown is a mile flown and a hotel night spent is just that. Not crediting for third parties or reducing because a partner lowers their program should not cause Alaska to adjust the miles credited on AA.
