Discover Cards Transitioning to Capital One
Capital One Financial Corporation completed its acquisition of Discover Financial Services back in May of 2025. Since then they have been slowly moving cards to the Discover network, starting with roughly 25 million debit cards. Then they started moving some credit cards, including the Quicksilver card.
Now in the latest consolidation move, Discover has sent out emails to many cardholders to inform them that their card is moving to Capital One.
The email says that you will “soon have more ways to earn, new benefits and a new account experience using the Capital One website and app.” It’s not clear what those improvements (if any) might look like. But here are some important dates and information listed in the email:
- Now: Keep using your card and managing your account as usual.
- The next few months: You’ll get more information from both Discover and Capital One, including details about new benefits and how you’ll manage your account moving forward.
- July 24-26: We’ll finish setting up your card account with Capital One. You can use your card without interruption.
- July 27: You will start using the Capital One website and app to manage this account.

If you’re interested in a particular card design (NHL, Flags) I recommend getting it now before the switch over. It isn’t clear that the card design option will be immediately available after the switch over.
