Dubai Parks & Resorts Looks Amazing
Back in the boom of the 2000’s, Dubai was aiming to become the tourism capital of the world. During that time they managed to build some amazing projects including the Palm Islands, the World islands and of course the tallest building in the world Burj Khalifa. As part of their tourism push, a ton of new theme parks were also announced. Unfortunately the global crisis came in 2008 and most of those plans fell through. But life is cyclical right?
A couple of weeks ago I covered new stunning pictures of Shanghai Disneyland which is set to open in June. Well, while Disney puts the finishing touches on their hugely delayed and highly anticipated park, one company in Dubai is building three world class parks. The company is Dubai Parks & Resorts and the parks are motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks Dubai and Legoland Dubai. Add in a luxury hotel (affiliated with Marriott), a Legoland water park and a shopping & dining district and you have what it took decades to build elsewhere.
motiongate Dubai
While you can click around on their website to find out about the details of each park, one in particular looks amazing. motiongate Dubai is the resort’s movie themed park. At opening it will house a total of 5 roller coasters and 27 attractions spread across 5 themed sections. Among the sections are entire areas dedicated to Sony Pictures, Lionsgate (think Hunger Games) and a cavernous indoor park themed to Dreamworks!
Just take a look at this map:
Of course this is not an amusement park website and I don’t normally cover under construction parks, but there are three reasons I am writing this. First off, I personally know a couple of people who have helped to design and build this resort and know how passionate and knowledgeable they are. Second I believe Dubai Parks & Resorts will instantly become a world class destination. Finally, they made an amazing video that really shows why this park and resort will be a destination. You can see it below.
4th Park Coming – Six Flags Dubai
Do you think an ambitious company would stop at just three parks? Well, the answer is no. In case the 5 roller coasters at motiongate Dubai and the attractions at Legoland and the Bollywood park aren’t enough, the company recently announced that they have secured funding to build a fourth park on property. (Yes that is the same number of parks as Disney World!) While details are still hard to come by, the new park will be co-branded with Six Flags. Given the team working on it, I’m sure it will be a few steps above their U.S. parks.
Conclusion
As a huge theme park fan I am hoping to get to Dubai Parks & Resorts in October. No one from the company asked me to write this and I have had no contact with their media relations. I simply think this is an amazing project and I personally think this resort along with other parks like Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi (home to the fastest coaster in the world) will ensure that Dubai (and the UAE) become a family travel destination for many.
What do you think? Will Dubai Parks & Resorts be able to compete with other huge destination resorts like Disney and Universal? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Hey Sean – Any opportunities to use miles/points toward these parks in Dubai?
The on-site hotel will be affiliated with Marriott and for tickets you may be able to use flexible points like Ultimate Rewards to book, however we won’t know that until it opens.
My big concern would be the heat. I dislike the idea of spending a lot of time queuing outside in Dubai. Evening would probably be the best time for anything other than the water park. Dubai can be hot.
Yes it will get hot in the Summer which could be a concern. The one nice thing is that many of the queues seem to be indoors and the entire Dreamworks section is indoors. I do think that section will get crowded during the hotter part of the day.
Doubt Farsi is a language of preference in UAE:) Farsi is spoken in Iran
Seems like AF is better off just hiring crew based in IKA just to serve the IKA-CDG route rather than deal with all this exception stuff. I doubt AF will have any trouble finding folks in IKA who are bilingual in French and Farsi.
This is pretty cool! I went to Wild Wadi waterpark in Dubai several years ago after seeing it featured on Amazing Race (US TV series) and loved it! Hopefully it works out. As far as competition, only time will tell. Disney World and Universal Studios are classics and I feel the US knows how to build a theme/amusement park. With the Six Flags brand, that park will be epic.
