Eatwith Promo Code: An Immersive Dining Experience
If I am being honest I have not had a chance to try Eatwith out yet. A couple of regulars (Adam & Jody) at my Detroit area meet ups told me about their experience using Eatwith while in Paris. They couldn’t say enough good things about it so I thought I would write about the program and share an Eatwith promo code to help you save some money.

What Is Eatwith?
Eatwith is a way to get an authentic, local dining experience no matter where you travel to. It is a website that pairs you with a local host(s) and they will cook you a homemade meal. Is there anything more culturally immersive than dining in a local’s house eating their home cooked meal? Lack of cultural immersion is one of the reasons I have resisted “cruising”.
I know right off the bat that this will not be for everyone. Going to a stranger’s house for dinner seems somewhat out there. But it isn’t all that unheard of. If you have seen the amazing documentary 42 Grams then you know even two-star Michelin chefs have hosted dining parties in their house before having a restaurant.
How It Works
I think of Eatwith similar to Airbnb but for home cooking. You can search an area that you are visiting, or even your home town, for potential matches. They will list a price for the meal and most likely the menu for the meal. Some will give you options but most have a set menu. There are reviews from previous guests so you can feel more confident with your decision. Some will provide wine etc. while others will tell you to bring your own.
I did a quick search in Amsterdam for an upcoming trip and there were a plethora of choices, including dining on a house boat. How cool would that be?

Adam & Jody’s Eatwith Review
Adam & Jody told me it was one of their favorite memories from their Paris trip. They went over to the host’s house on their scheduled evening and a husband and wife prepared the meal for them.
They had 3 made from scratch appetizer courses to start the meal. The main course was a duck dish and a homemade tart for dessert. Some red wine and a bottle of white wine was included with the meal as well as some dessert wine at the end of the meal.
The experience lasted several hours because they were enjoying the food and the conversation. I think that would be one of the cooler aspects of Eatwith, a chance to get a local’s perspective on the area you are visiting. That is some of the fun with Airbnb if you get an outgoing, welcoming host.
They said they may have even overstayed their welcome because they were enjoying the experience so much. They told me that I had to try it out for myself and encouraged me to write about their experience.
Eathwith Promo Code & Review – Bottom Line
There are some hesitations with Eatwith for sure. Going to a stranger’s house and eating out of a non industrial kitchen comes with some potential risks. There are no health code inspections etc. and the person cooking the meal is most likely not a professional chef. I think that if you choose a host that has multiple very positive reviews that should negate some of your worries.
If you can get past the possible negatives and take a leap of faith I think this could be one of your more amazing travel experiences. I look forward to checking it out at some point in the future. Thank you Adam and Jody for sharing your Eatwith review with all of us and allowing me to write about it. I owe you guys a drink at the next meet up ;).

First I have heard of this, could be a great resource in areas lacking much culinary potential. Thx!
It opens up possibilities for sure. I think Shawn is gonna try it out while he is touring Asia next month as well.
Looking forward to his thoughts
We just dined with EatWith in Amsterdam and had a wonderful time! We went to Martine and Olaf’s house.
Excellent – glad to hear you enjoyed it as well!
This post reminded me of an Airbnb “Experience” that my husband and I participated in this last November when we were in Shanghai as a result of the Hong Kong Airlines fare deal. We had a wonderful evening being shown how to cook several authentic Shanghainese dishes in the home of Charlize, the mother in law of Stefan Krasowski of Rapid Travel Chai. In checking out Eatwith (unfortunately no hosts in Doha or Colombo-surprise, surprise), I see that Charlize is also a host with Eatwith, under the title “Taste Home Cooking with a Shanghai mom.” It is fun to spend an evening in someone’s home and to see the home of a resident in the city you are visiting. Although we communicated with Charlize mostly through a language app, she is incredibly charming and is a warm host. I couldn’t stop hugging her when it was time to leave. If you still have a trip to Shanghai planned via HX or otherwise, it is a great way to spend some of your mealtime. You won’t leave hungry and you’ll see why one of the most diversely–traveled travel bloggers enjoys visiting his mother in law so much!
What a cool story – thank you so much for sharing Pauline
That was a rude caption.
Jody knows I am just having some fun with him.
