Nonsense Devaluation: Expedia No Longer Allows Points To Be Used On Flights

Expedia No Longer Allows Points To Be Used On Flights

I am not going to lie, I don’t know a ton about Expedia’s program and have never looked into it much at all.  I know they had an increased offer on their credit card a few years back that was tempting, and Joe from the podcast jumped on.  But this has to be one of the dumbest, most nonsensical, devaluations I have seen in travel.  Doctor of Credit is reporting that Expedia no longer allows points to be used on flights but only on hotel stays.  This comes after they recently stopped allowing double point values on VIP properties.

I think it is safe to say that if you have points in this program burn them to the ground now before they can only be used on experiences on Wednesday nights between the hours of 7:00PM – 7:15PM or something crazy like that. For a travel site to not allow their own points to be used on all travel sold on their site is beyond logical.  It is nothing more than trying to focus the redemptions on an area they likely get a bigger cut of the pie, hotels.

I have had my own issues with Expedia with a LATAM cancellation.  The flight was completely canceled but they were unwilling to refund me. Not only that, but they are holding the credit hostage so I need to call them to rebook the LATAM flight and use the credit.  If it had been a direct credit with LATAM then I could cash out the value to my bank account at least.  Safe to say I won’t be doing business with them in the future.

  1. Mark, the CEO wants to earn his bonus, so he had to find away to improve the company’s financials. This was one of them. Surprise, surprise.
