Update 4/23: The registration page is no longer loading. The offer no longer seems to be working.

Free Platinum Status

Hyatt currently has a promotion for Microsoft Employees where they can register and receive Platinum status through February, 2015.  Additionally, members who register through this offer are given a fast track towards keeping Platinum status through February, 2016 and towards earning Diamond status. Registration is currently open until July 31, 2014, but that could change at any time.

While this promotion is for Microsoft employees, it seems that anyone can register.  As a reminder, Platinum status comes with 2pm checkout based on availability, free internet and room upgrades.  In my experience the room upgrades are a modest benefit as they usually just give you a better location and not a bigger or better type of room, but something is better than nothing. Platinum members also receive a 15% points bonus.

Fast Track

To maintain the Platinum status through February, 2016 Hyatt is only requiring 4 stays or 10 nights in 2014. This is less than the 5 stays or 15 nights that they usually require.

Hyatt is also lowering the requirements to reach and keep Diamond status. Under this promotion, members only need 20 stays or 40 nights to reach Diamond status and keep it through February, 2016.  They normally require 25 stays or 50 nights to reach this level.

Analysis

While there is no guarantee that Hyatt will honor this promotion for members who aren’t employees of Microsoft, it doesn’t hurt to register. My wife has Platinum status through the Chase Hyatt card and it has been useful on a number of occasions.

I probably won’t take advantage of the fast track offer, but my plans are always changing so who knows. We had Diamond status last year and I can say that it is well worth getting if you have a lot of Hyatt stays.

You can register here. Enjoy!
