30% Bonus When You Transfer MR Points to Virgin Atlantic Miles
American Express is offering a new transfer bonus, when you transfer Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic miles.
The Offer
Get 30% more Flying Club miles when you transfer Membership Rewards points through 5/22/17.
Key Terms
- Minimum transfer is 1,000 Membership Rewards points.
- Redeem for this exclusive offer from 12:00 a.m. MT on April 17, 2017 to 11:59 p.m. MT on May 22, 2017.
- Additional Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles will be awarded at the time of transfer.
Conclusion
The regular transfer rate between the two programs is 1:1 so this bonus gives you 1,300 Virgin Atlantic Miles for every 1,000 Membership Rewards points that you transfer. Virgin Atlantic miles are not worth that much, especially after the devaluation early this year, so this transfer bonus won’t make sense for most people. However it might be useful to some. Keep in might that it might take up to two days for the points to transfer.

I wonder why you said “Virgin Atlantic miles are not worth that much, especially after the devaluation early this year, so this transfer bonus won’t make sense for most people”. Using off peak rates, this promo allows you to fly in upper class for 66.5K Amex miles RT. You can fly PE for 24.5K Amex miles RT. Or my favorite use, PE on the outbound and upper class inbound for 45.5K Amex miles RT. An economy RT is only 14K Amex miles. These rates are from the NE to London off peak. Surely these are cheap redemptions to position yourself to anywhere in the EU.
Virgin Atlantic had great redemption Chicago to Tokyo on ANA. 120,000 points round trip first class plus 198 bucks.
1. wouldn’t it be cheaper for some delta flights?
2. you could transfer it to them and then to hilton to essentially get 1.95 hilton points per point
3. you could transfer to them and then transfer to IHG which counts towards spire status I believe. So 58000 MR would get you a little over 75,000 Virgin Atlantic. You transfer that to IHG which gets you Spire and pick the 25k points as your perk. So 58000 MR becomes 100 IHG points.
Just some options….I think my info is correct.
