Groupon & Living Social Deals

Both LivingSocial and Groupon are getting in the spring mood by offering discounts on their popular local deals. They also both have increased return opportunities via portals. Lets take a look at how to maximize these deals.

LivingSocial

LivingSocial is offering 15% off with the code BLOOM15.

Key Terms:

*Maximum discount of $20

Promo code must be used between March 13, 2015 12:00 a.m. (Eastern Time) and March 15, 2015, 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time)

Portal Cashback

According to Cashback Monitor, you can earn up to 15% cashback with LivingSocial. The key is that Top Cashback is paying 15% cashback for new customers, but only 6% for existing customers.

So new customers of Living Social will realize a 30% discount. Not bad. If you aren’t a new customer or don’t want to open a new account, you can get 9% back from Best Rate, thus netting a decent 24% off.

Groupon

Groupon is offering 20% off of up to 3 local deals with the code SPRING20.

Key Terms:

  • Expires March 15
  • Maximum Discount of $50

Cashback

Updated: I missed that some portals are actually paying 10% back as showing in my link below making this an overall 30% discount. With that said, Judah Ross pointed out on Twitter, that Groupon sneakily upped their prices 10% or more before this promotion.

Groupon is paying up to 6% cashback through portals, although Southwest is currently paying 5 Rapid Rewards points per dollar which is probably the better way to go. Remember that Rapid Rewards points earned through portal also count towards the companion pass.

Since Rapid Rewards points are worth 1.4 cents each for travel, your actual discount ends up being 27% overall. Not bad and Groupon generally has a fantastic selection of deals. (At least in my area.)

Travel Deals

I have written before that I love to take advantage of these types of deals to save on activities for upcoming travel. Recently my family and I saved a ton of money in San Francisco and we have purchased certificates in a number of other cities as well.

Conclusion

These discount deals tend to come around every month or so, but the portal cashback increases mean it may be a good time to stock up or look for discounted activities for upcoming trips.
