HHonors Visa Signature 75k Extended Until October
Hilton HHonors is a strange program in that it has a relationship with two different credit card partners, Citi and American Express. Among the four main Hilton HHonors co-branded cards issued in the U.S., perhaps the least talked about is the Visa Signature card. (Ok, perhaps that hasn’t been the case lately.)
The no annual fee Citi HHonors Visa Signature card has historically come with a 40K sign-up bonus, but a couple of months ago Citi increased the bonus the 75K and slapped an expiration date on the offer of September 30. I have seen several sites write about the end of this offer, so I thought I would let you know that isn’t the case.
A New Expiration Date
The Lazy Traveler’s Handbook has found a different link that lists an expiration date of October 31, 2015. This version of the offer appears to be marketed alongside National, Alamo & Enterprise and comes with a $25 statement credit with $200 spend at those car rental companies.
The truly good news though is this means that you now have an extra month to decide if you want this card or if it fits within your overall strategy. This will be a great offer for many people and a terrible offer for others. It really depends on your hotel staying habits.
What Is 75K Good For?
As you can see from the award chart above, if you like to stay in high-end or aspirational properties, then this simply isn’t the card for you. This sign-up bonus may not even cover 1 night during high season in a category 10 Hilton property. It is still a great bonus though. Why? Look at the low end of the chart.
This bonus can get you 15 nights in a category 1 property, although finding one is highly unlikely. Still, you can get multiples of nights in Category 4 properties and below and there are a ton of those. Some of them are really really nice too. One of the best Hilton properties I ever stayed at was the Doubletree in Kuala Lumpur. It only costs 10,000 points per night. I would gladly stay there for a week on one sign-up bonus.
Dilemma with Other Citi Card Offers
The real challenge with this offer and others is that Citi has a lot of good deals right now. Since you can only get so many Citi cards within a certain span of time, you must carefully plan which applications and which products make the most sense for you. At least now we know there is an extra month for this offer and hopefully zombie links will even stick around after that.
Conclusion
I just wanted to make sure everyone is aware that this offer isn’t ending this week in case you were feeling pressure to apply. This is a great offer, but it may or may not be right for you. It is always a good idea to do things on your time and at your pace. Make sure the cards you apply for and the programs they work with fit your needs. Remember, slow & steady doesn’t make you a loser!
