How To Tell What Hyatt Hotel Brand Each Property Is
It is in the name of the hotel stupid, duh. Is that what you were thinking when you saw this headline? The Hyatt Regency Cleveland, it is obviously a Hyatt Regency! That is true, most of the hotels in the World of Hyatt brand are easy to figure out. But there are some that are not so easy to tell. How about the Grand Hotel Minneapolis or The Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia etc? There are quite a few that are not so easy. So how do you tell what Hyatt hotel brand each property is and why do we care?
Why You Should Care About The Brand Of Your Hyatt Hotel
One of my favorite perks of the World of Hyatt loyalty program is the brand explorer perk. With the brand explorer perk you can earn a free night category 1-4 cert for every 5 unique brands you stay at. We were the first to break the news that you can now earn up to 3 free nights per account. If World of Hyatt continues to add brands, they are at 17 right now, we could see a chance at 4 in our near future.
These are a lifetime achievement so they do not reset each year. That means the most you can earn is 3 per account. But if you are in a two player situation then that is a chance at 6 free night certs just for staying at unique brands.
I am not going to lie, when I visit a city I always look for brands that I have not hit before, hello Hyatt Centric New Orleans. If the price and location are comparable I will almost always go with the new brand. If there are only brands I have stayed at then I may book a night under my wife’s account to make sure she knocks a brand off the list too. It makes traveling a little more fun in my opinion and that is why I want to know what brand each hotel falls under in every city I visit.
How Do You Tell What Hyatt Hotel Brand Each Property Is?
You would think that it would be easy to find what each hotel’s brand is but it isn’t always the case. The main landing page with all of the hotel info doesn’t always display the hotel brand (see above). But there are two tried and true ways to easily locate what brand the hotel is if it doesn’t clearly show you on the main page:
Online – Do A Dummy Booking
If you like to book all of your hotels on a computer, like I do, then the best way to get the info is to do a dummy booking. Once you get to the payment page the brand will be highlighted in the photo, The Grand Hotel Minneapolis is a Hyatt brand hotel as you can see above.
Use Your World of Hyatt Phone App
The quickest way to find the hotel brand may be to fire up your World of Hyatt app on your phone though. When you search for any hotel you will find the brand highlighted in a box in the lower right corner.
Final Thoughts
Most of the time the brand of a World of Hyatt hotel is pretty easy to recognize. But with the addition of SLH hotel properties and these new exotic brands it isn’t always so straightforward anymore. You can use either of these two tricks to know what Hyatt hotel brand each property is.

Any chance you could post a cheat sheet on basic differences between Hyatt brands? I’m a repeat Globalist but I couldn’t tell you the difference between a Hyatt and a Hyatt Regency and have never stayed at an Andaz, partly because I don’t know which benefits will apply and partly because I don’t know what to expect from that particular brand. Does Andaz offer suite upgrades? Is there a club lounge? What exactly makes them worth the extra money? Things like that.
I can add it to the list for sure. Thanks for the idea Christian.
I’m a little frustrated with the Hyatt brands, at least in relation to the World of Hyatt credit card. With a few exceptions, Destination Hotels are part of the World of Hyatt, they show up with all the other Hyatt offerings and book through the app or website just like a Hyatt property. I assume I’ll get a brand explorer credit for staying there. However, based on what I’m seeing on my Chase online account, Destination Hotels do not earn 4 points on the World of Hyatt card, only 1 point per dollar. Am I wrong about that? If I’m right then Chase defines “Hyatt Hotels” to include some brands on the Hyatt website, like Andaz (4pts), but not to include other World of Hyatt brands, like Destination (1pt). That’s not great.
It should earn the bonus points per dollar. If you don’t see the points post then I would reach out to Chase and see what is going on. As far as I know it should code the same as every other Hyatt owned property.
We’ll see. Pretty sure it won’t though. Restaurant purchases show up as double points. But Destination Hotel booked through Hyatt posts as single points, just like a utility bill.
I would send Chase a secure message and see what is up once it posts.
Which Hyatt card do you need to have to make this work? I have the original Hyatt card.
For the brand explorer perk? You don’t need a card – just need to be a member of World of Hyatt.
