Increased Sign Up Bonuses on HSBC Credit Cards

HSBC is offering increased bonuses for three of their credit cards. You can earn as much as 40,000 points which could be worth as much as $600 for Premier customers. Let take a look at these offers.

HSBC Premier World MasterCard

  • 40,000 Rewards Program Bonus Points when you spend $2,500 or more during the first three months
  • Earn 1 Point for every new, net dollar in credit card purchases
  • No Points expiration or earnings cap.
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • $0 Annual Fee for qualified Premier clients (otherwise $95 Annual Fee)
  • Must have HSBC Premier checking account relationship to apply
  • Application Page

HSBC Advance MasterCard

  • Earn 1X Rewards Program Point on all other purchases
  • No Points expiration or earnings cap.
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • $0 Annual Fee for qualified Advance clients (otherwise $45 Annual Fee)
  • Must have HSBC Advance or Premier checking account relationship to apply
  • Application Page

HSBC Advance MasterCard

  • 15,000 Rewards Program Bonus Points when you spend $500 or more during the first three months
  • Earn 1X Rewards Program Point on all other purchases
  • No Points expiration or earnings cap.
  • No Foreign Transaction Fees
  • $0 Annual Fee

What Are These Points Worth

Points you earn from the sign up bonus and spending on these cards are worth 1 cents a piece when redeemed for statement credit. Premier cardholders can redeem for 1.5 cents per points as statement credit for travel expenses.

Points can also be transferred to travel partners, but only British Airways, Singapore Airlines & Cathay Pacific.

HSBC says that these points do not expire, but that’s a bit misleading. If there’s 12 months of inactivity on your HSBC card, HSBC Bank reserves the right to close your Account. If that happens, all of your accumulated points are immediately forfeited and will not be available for redemption.

Conclusion

These bonuses make sense mostly for those who have a Premier banking relationship with HSBC, since it is required to apply for the highest bonused card. If that’s the case, then you should look at the HSBC Premier World MasterCard, because $600 is a good bonus.

For most most people these cards might not be worth the hassle.

Would you consider any of them?
